Lodging in eastern California is both easy to find and affordable. The area around Palm Springs is packed with cheap
motels and exclusive hotels. And campsites are abundant, particularly in the northern part of Highway 395. It´s fairly
easy to find cheap lodging in Lee Vining, the gateway to Yosemite National Park, whereas it´s virtually impossible to
get a room inside the park without months of reservation. The commanly seen chains of motels are absent outside of the
Palm Springs area and Bishop up north on Highway 395. But thats just fine: Enjoy smaller, more personal establishments
instead.

If you´re into camping you´re in for a treat: Both Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks have numerous
campgrounds. And there are a large number of smaller campgrounds along Highway 395. If you´re in the eastern
part of Yosemite and are desperately looking for a campground a good advice is to drive to the Lee Vining Visitor
Center, just south of the city, and ask the serviceminded staff there. They have information of all of the campgrounds
in the vicinity, and whether they are full or not.
